The Panceri Family, originally from the Lombardy region – north of Italy – have
always had their roots linked to viticulture. In 1884, when Giuseppe Panceri
immigrated to Rio Grande do Sul, his family tradition of cultivating vineyards
was reborn in Brazilian soil.
Later, in 1953, his grandson Nilo Panceri, who had already established himself
in the State of Santa Catarina, began what would become the Panceri Winery project.
American grapevines were planted to provide grapes for industrialization. With a
lot of dedication, Nilo took care of the vineyards and passed on all his knowledge
to his children.
To add value to their property, Nilo and his two children, Celso and Luiz,
founded in 1990 the Panceri Winery. The first wines were commercialized in bulk,
and it was only in 1994 that the first wine with a Panceri label was bottled.
Gradually they noticed that it was situated in a unique area, blessed with
excellent climate and soil conditions for grape growing. In 1999, they planted the
first European vineyards to make fine wines with the mark of a new terroir.
Panceri’s vineyards are located in hillsides with altitudes from 1,000 to 1,200
meters (3,000 to 3,600 feet), where the soils are well drained and deep. The vines
are trained in espalier trellis system to provide the best sun exposition for the
grapes. These characteristics give the Marari Hill a unique tipicity among the
wines of Santa Catarina and Brazil.
The first fine wine was a 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. Soon afterwards it was followed
by bottles of Merlot and Chardonnay, both responsible for the recognition of the winery
as a producer of high quality wines.
They focus not only in the quality of the grapes, but also in working with new
technology and enological knowledge, enabling them to make wines that display a
distinctive terroir.
With this advantage, in 2007 the company began to export. Panceri Chardonnay
2006 was the first wine from Santa Catarina to be exported, making the Panceri
Winery a pioneer among the wineries of the state.
The portfolio of products includes red and white still wines, sparkling wines
and spirits, that are mainly sold in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil,
but that are also exported to Europe.
